This price is for anyone who has not taken three or more online workshops from Wayne in the last 3 years. 

Workshop Description

From translucent colors of a grape to the reflective surface of metal to the texture of a lemon peel, have you ever wondered how the Old Masters were able to create food and still life paintings that are so lifelike? The short answer is they used different layering techniques using transparent and opaque paint. The Old Masters used oil painting, but to our delight, their multi-layered techniques are actually even more efficient in acrylic because acrylic dries much faster than oil. You can create dozens of layers in acrylic in a few hours, which is faster than in oil. 

Learn these layering and glazing techniques developed by Wayne over the last three decades, which resembles the look of the 17th century Baroque Old Masters' oil paintings using acrylic paint. 

In this workshop you will learn:

• The multi-layering technique of the Baroque Masters;
• To create different food and still life surfaces using different combinations of transparent and opaque paint;
• To use Old Masters’ limited color palette to create realistic subtle and nuanced color;
• How to see light and shadow in food and still life;
• The logic and rules of where to put in details and where to leave them out for a more realistic painting;
• To apply hard and soft edges to create focal points and make your painting more realistic.

Both online and in person workshops will have slideshow presentations, painting demos, painting exercises, painting assignments, and paint along with Wayne.

In person workshops will have extended painting sessions. During these sessions, students will get one-on-one mentoring from Wayne. Photo references will be provided for all painting assignments. Students are welcome to bring their own photo references for their own paintings.

Online workshop students can attend class live via Zoom and will have access to download a video file of the painting demo to refer to so they can paint along at home at their own pace. There will be critiques at the beginning of some of the classes.

Online workshop students are responsible for knowing how to:

• Log into Zoom. Be sure to test this before the first class session.
• Send email file attachments of photos of their paintings to Wayne for feedback.
